So today is Sunday- my day of rest. When God created Earth even he thought that Sunday should just be a day for schlepping around- reading a book, hanging out, and more importantly SLEEPING IN. I have been looking forward to today all week after having to get up early and run around Peru every other day this week.
And I can even say with certainty that last night proved to be a great night’s sleep for me. I dreamed about going back to Ancash for training and even heading to Arequipa for some vacationing.
However, my day of sleeping in was cut short at 5:45 this morning with the devil-approved loudspeaker going off right outside my window. And I mean right outside. Picture yourself at a baseball game with an announcer announcing the batting lineup- yeah it’s that kind of loud. It’s all because I think they guy that owns the loudspeaker- professor Martin, wishes he took up a life as an announcer at a live auction but never got the chance. Plus, he must never sleep.
So from 5:45 until 7:15 I woke up listening to techno music, happy birthday songs, donkeys braying (Peruvians actually have that terrible noise recorded), and of course, professor Martin YELLING into the loudspeaker about the most amazing qualities that a three year old down the street possesses. I know the three year old down the street- she hardly talks. However, after paying 1 sol (30 cents) you can have a man praise his/ her god-like qualities for the entire town to hear on their birthday. And drive me mad.
Oh yeah , and he throws in some advertising about the carniceria (butcher shop) down the street afterwards.
Now, you may think im being dramatic. I am not. I am completely fine with the thirty roosters
next-door cock a doodle doing throughout the night and all morning long. I am totally fine with the dogs that bark underneath my window. I am even OK with the men selling fish from their bike carts as they yell in a nasally- type of voice “Pescado fresco, pescado fresco, todos los tipos de pescado fresco.” However I am not OK with music more annoying than Lamb Chop’s “this is the song that never ends” playing for more than an hour on my day of sleeping in. I feel like I’m in a discoteca rather than my bed.
But to my dismay, no one else finds it as annoying as I do.
I love these two new blogs!!! I can just picture your Tai Chi class...It must be hysterical. I wish someone would video tape it for me! I was also laughing out loud reading about Professor Martin and his loud speaker. I wonder if they would know it was you if the wire to the loud speaker suddenly became cut. Just an idea.... I love you!!!!
