I´m sure you all have gotten pretty sick of my gross animal encounter stories, but alas I have another. Last night, my friends Nils, Alex, Jess and I decided it was a beautiful night and we were going to have a beer. While waiting for Alex to finish dinner and for Jess to change into pants, I was sitting along one of the canals in our neighborhood that transports waste water from up the mountain to the dirty river below. Anyways, so there I was sitting and just hanging out with Nils and picking apart some leaves from the ground. I found a really smooth rock to play with, however upon closer examination I realized this ¨rock¨was nothing of the sort. Having taken enough anatomy classes and dissected enough specimens, I soon deduced that this rock was too light, too smooth, and too much like an animal vertebrae. A cow vertebrae to be exact. Naturally, I screamed, threw the bone into the canal and ran into my friend Alex´house (who was eating dinner) straight to the bathroom to wash my hands. Sick. I mean, at that point in time, I just wasn´t mentally prepared to be juggling with cow bones while enjoying a beer. Soon after that, we moved our location to a more bone-free site.
(Side note) I also found out yesterday that the ¨mote¨soup that I have eaten on a regular basis is made by boiling a giant goat head in water to give it flavor. I was wondering what those pieces of cartilage were from. Blah.
Tomorrow I have a spanish interview that I´m a little apprehensive about. It decides what language level we are put into for the next six weeks of my life. Wish me luck.
I went to Chosica again today ( I love that city) and bought knock off pumas for $15 and the new Arctic Monkeys album that works perfectly and I am super pumped about.
Really that´s all I have to say about today- we went and celebrated one of our fellow volunteers birthdays at the ¨Peace Corps bar¨that I have frequented on multiple occasions which was a treat. As always, I miss you all more than you know and I am loving the emails I get on a regular basis (shout out to mags- you have been great about that). Love you all
